10 day Garden Route Adventure!

Start Date : 18-Feb-2012
End Date : 26-Feb-2012
Time : 9am
Venue :  Observatory Train Station
On Saturday the first we will leave from Observatory train station, and travel to "Backpacker's Paradise" in Oudshoorn. It is a family run hostel, where personal attention is the order of the day. Paradise is THE destination! The main hostel building has an amazing sunset balcony from where the Swartberg Mountains form an idyllic view. The hostel is within walking distance of the local restaurants, museums, supermarkets and banks. We will spend 2 nights at this little hotspot and the following day will head out to the Cango Caves.

Situated 29km from Oudtshoorn, at the head of the picturesque Cango Valley, lies the spectacular underground wonder of the Klein Karoo - the Cango Caves. Situated in a limestone ridge parallel to the well known Swartberg Mountains, we will explore the finest dripstone caverns, with their vast halls and towering formations. We will then stop at the Ostrich Farm and the Cango Wildlife Ranch en-route back. Riding an ostrich is included in the price at the ostrich farms.

The following day we head to Plettenberg Bay, one of the Garden routes jewels. Before we reach this idylic seaside town we will stop off for an unforgetable Elephant encounter at the Knysna Elephant sanctuary. Join the southern most elephants in the world at the Knysna Elephant Park where the resident family of African elephants and world-class guides will unravel the sad and mystical story of the Knysna Elephants. The park offers a rare and exciting opportunity to get close to these gentle giants, who live in a controlled, free range environment in the heart of the famous Garden Route. We will spend 2 nights in an incredible backpackers in Plett and the following morning, will visit the world renound Monkey Land, and Birds of Eden.

Monkeyland opened its doors to the public on the 6th of April 1998. Their unique primate sanctuary is currently the top eco-tourism attraction on the Garden Route and for very sound and sunny reasons. Monkeyland has captured the hearts of visitors in its efforts to rehabilitate and free previously caged primates. The sanctuary is exceptional as it caters for several species of primates who are not caged. They are free to move about the forest and this they do most harmoniously. We will enjoy a guided safari and expect to see a variety of primates, ranging from the Gibbons of Asia to the Lemurs of Madagascar. After having a great lunch here, we will head to Birds of Eden and explore the largest Bird Avery in the country. This beautiful experience is one not to be missed.

One more night in beautiful Plett, and we'll head to Jeffery's Bay. Stopping only to plunge headfirst from The Bloukrans bridge. This bridge is the highest single span arch bridge in the world, and is home to the highest commercially operating bungy in the world, according to the Guinness World Book of Records! The jump is 216m high! This is not for the feint of heart, but is a once in a lifetime experience, and one we urge all of you to take advantage of.

The next 3 nights of this adventure will be spent in Ubuntu Easy Living Lodge which is situated in the heart of South African surf-country, Jeffrey's Bay, and caters to fun-loving people looking for an epic adventure. and is a mere 100m to the beach & magical Supertubes, and there are great wave-views from around the house.

We will spend 3 nights in J-Bay, learning to surf and relaxing beach side! We will also explore a secret waterfall in this beautiful spot!
